Jeffrey S. Markowitz is the Vice President and head of Freddie Mac’s Government and Industry Relations Department. In that role, Mr. Markowitz oversees the Congressional Relations and State Relations functions. He also oversees the Industry Relations function, which includes the company’s relationships with mortgage bankers, realtors, and housing and consumer advocates.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Markowitz served as Senior Director of Public Policy, where he focused on affordable housing and legislative and regulatory issues. He began at Freddie Mac in the Legal Division, where he worked on a variety of legislative and regulatory matters, including fair lending, automated underwriting, and the Government Sponsored Enterprise’s affordable housing goals.
Prior to joining Freddie Mac, Mr. Markowitz was a trial attorney in the Civil Division of the United States Department of Justice, where he focused on constitutional law. Mr. Markowitz also worked in the Bureau of Consumer Protection at the Federal Trade Commission, where he brought the FTC’s first case for fraud on the Internet. Prior to that, he was a litigation associate at the Washington, D.C. law firm, Patton Boggs, where he worked on both civil and criminal litigation matters.
Mr. Markowitz is a graduate of the Yale Law School and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Georgetown University. He lives in Arlington, Virginia with his wife, Susan Fox, and their four children.
